The Cartel comienza desde el primer minuto con el mismo ritmo trepidante que va a exhibir en todo momento a lo largo de la aventura. Se trata de un videojuego frenético en todos los sentidos de la palabra, con una estructura de guión que por lo que hemos podido ver da algunos saltos adelante y atrás en el tiempo para contarnos la historia de tres superpolicías de la DEA embarcados en una épica guerra contra los carteles de la droga que operan en los estados del sur de Estados Unidos. El videojuego, de hecho, abre el fuego con una sorprendente persecución a bordo de todoterrenos por el medio de una atestada autopista. Las explosiones y la metralla se desbocan en apenas los cinco minutos que nos llevará superar este capítulo inicial, pero ya nos da una idea del tempo palpitante del que vamos a disfrutar en este videojuego. En este primer capítulo nos sentamos en uno de los asientos traseros del coche, pudiendo escoger cuándo asomar el cuerpo para apuntar a nuestros enemigos y cuándo agazaparnos para recuperar la salud regenerativa.
